How fit do I have to be?
Our challenges are first and foremost challenges but can be undertaken by anyone in a reasonable state of health and fitness. All our trips are graded, allowing you to evaluate if you are suited for the adventure challenge. To help you decide whether you are up for the challenge we recommend that you read the detailed trip notes, speak to our expert staff about the physical requirements of your challenge and familiarise yourself with our trip grading definitions.
Once you have registered on a challenge here are some suggestions how you can prepare for your challenge:
Grade | Introductory
Suggested preparation ~ 30 minutes of aerobic type exercise, (either cycling or jogging) three times a week. For trekking, hill walking with a daypack in variable weather conditions is also recommended. For a cycling adventure, road cycling twice a week for three months prior to departure is recommended.
Grade | Introductory to Moderate
Suggested preparation ~ adopt a combination of what is described in our INTRODUCTORY and MODERATE levels.
Grade | Moderate
Suggested preparation ~ 45 minutes of aerobic type exercise, three to four times a week. Hill walking with a pack in variable weather conditions, kayaking or road cycling is also recommended depending upon the activity you plan to undertake.
Grade | Moderate to Challenging
Suggested preparation ~ adopt a combination of what is described in our MODERATE and CHALLENGING levels.
Grade | Challenging
Suggested preparation ~ one hour of aerobic type exercise, four times a week. Hill walking with a pack in variable weather conditions is also recommended.
